West Linn, Oregon has a long and eventful history. The first settlers arrived in the early 1800s, and the town soon went through a number of unfortunate events; a major fire, the Great Flood of 1862, and commercial and political rivalry with the neighboring town of Oregon City.

Despite all of these challenges, the little city persisted and became incorporated in 1913. The incorporation allowed for much-needed services, utilities, and improvements and so the population grew steadily through the 20th century.
