Gateway to the Gorge - Troutdale Arch - in Troutdale Oregon

What is Living in Troutdale Oregon Like?

Welcome to the Gateway to the Gorge!  Troutdale is a city on the eastern edge of the Portland metropolitan area near the confluence of the Sandy and Columbia rivers. It is the connection between a network of thriving and emerging cities and the world-class outdoor recreation areas of the Columbia River Gorge and Mount Hood. We are about 17 miles from downtown Portland, 12 miles from Portland International Airport, and 14 miles from the world-famous Multnomah Falls. The city is bordered on the east by the Sandy River, on the north by the Columbia River, on the south by Gresham, and on the west by Wood Village.

Fishing spots are abundant in and around Troutdale. The Sandy River is considered the top producing steelhead stream in the state of Oregon, with great runs of spring and fall salmon. Drift boat and raft trips are available. The Columbia River has the most extensive runs of salmon and steelhead of any river in the continental United States, with populations of walleye, bass, shad, and sturgeon.  Hiking along the Columbia River Gorge trails begins along Broughton Bluff in Troutdale at Lewis and Clark State Park. From there, you can drive along the Scenic Highway towards the waterfall area, where there are several great hiking trails for a full day's worth of exercise.  Windsurfing is available within an hour's drive from Troutdale in Hood River. Considered to be the windsurfing capital of the world, the Columbia River Gorge offers conditions that make an exciting adventure for the windsurfing enthusiast.

Historic Downtown Troutdale features art galleries, antique stores, and charming shops. It’s a fun and relaxing way for visitors and residents alike to spend a day. Other things to do in Troutdale include scenic flights over the Columbia River Gorge and Portland, departing from the Troutdale airport by Envi Adventures. A visit to Oxbow Regional Park provides many outdoor activities. And, if you have some money burning a hole in your pocket, Columbia Gorge Outlets is near downtown Troutdale and is a lovely place to shop.
